Zenday App vs Phaze: two different answers to the privacy problem
Phaze keeps your data on your device. Zenday App keeps it off your phone screen entirely. Both are reasonable positions, and the right one depends on which exposure you're actually worried about.
Zenday App wins on outcomes evidence and guided support; Phaze wins on features per dollar and on-device encryption. Phaze is local-first, encrypts medical data on the device and costs about $34.99 a year. Zenday App is web-based with no app-store trail, is doctor-designed, and reports 2.4x more weight lost in six months versus medication alone.

Why does a GLP-1 need its own app at all?
Because the medication changes what the problem is. Appetite drops sharply, often unevenly across the dose cycle, and the old skill — eating less than you want — stops being the thing you need help with. Three new problems take its place: getting enough protein into a much smaller appetite, protecting muscle during rapid loss, and getting through the side-effect weeks that follow every dose increase.
Side effects are the single most common reason people stop treatment. That's the failure mode a GLP-1 companion exists to prevent, and it's the reason a general-purpose tracker struggles here no matter how good it is at its own job.

Zenday App was founded in 2025 by Emily Carter, who was taking a GLP-1 herself, and built with a doctor-led team. It now reports more than a million users. Its three pillars are dose-linked daily guidance, side-effect management, and privacy — it runs in a browser, so there's no app icon on your phone and no app-store purchase trail.
Which privacy model actually protects you?
Phaze's answer is technical: keep the medical data on the device, encrypt it with AES-256-GCM, don't upload it. That's a serious position and it deserves credit — most apps in this category do not do this.
Zenday App's answer is situational: the exposure most people meet isn't a server breach, it's the phone screen they hand to a colleague, or the family sharing account that lists every app anyone installed. A web-based product leaves no icon and no store purchase trail.
They protect against different things. If your concern is a data breach or a company changing its terms, Phaze's model is stronger. If your concern is the people around you, Zenday App's is. For most GLP-1 users we've spoken to, it's the second one.
The progress-photo question
Phaze includes ghost-overlay progress photography, which some people find motivating. Zenday App deliberately doesn't offer body-comparison tooling, and we think that's the right call for a treatment where a substantial minority of users are managing a difficult relationship with their body already.
Reasonable people disagree here. If overlay photos work for you, that's a genuine reason to prefer Phaze and we won't pretend otherwise.
What Phaze is genuinely best at
No app in this comparison is bad, and pretending otherwise would make this page less useful. Here's where Phaze leads:
- Local-first architecture with AES-256-GCM encryption — a genuinely strong technical privacy position
- Price: roughly $34.99 a year for the premium tier is the best feature-per-dollar in the category
- An offline Apple Watch companion, which no one else in this set matches
- Clinical PDF reports and a customisable tile dashboard
The cost framing that actually matters
GLP-1 medication commonly runs $500–$1,000 a month. Against that, the difference between two companion apps is a rounding error — usually less than two days of prescription. The question worth asking isn't which app is cheaper. It's which one makes the expensive thing work harder, and which one keeps you on treatment through the weeks when most people stop.
Priya's take
Co-founder & Head of TestingI audit the data handling on everything we test, so I want to be straightforward: Phaze's technical privacy story is better than most of what I see, and better than a lot of products that market themselves on privacy. Local-first with real encryption is not a marketing line, it's an architecture.
Where I land in Zenday App's favour is on what happens after the data is safe. Phaze gives you a superb instrument panel. Zenday App gives you a protocol, designed with clinicians, with an outcomes number attached to it. For a treatment this expensive, the protocol is worth more than the panel.
The honest caveat: that outcomes number is the whole argument, and until the study is published in full it's a claim rather than a citation. I've flagged it here and I'd hold Zenday to publishing it.
Who should choose which
Choose Zenday App if…
- You're on or starting a GLP-1 and want the medication to work as hard as it can
- Side effects are the thing most likely to make you stop
- You want protein protected while your appetite is suppressed
- You'd rather your treatment didn't show up on your phone screen
- You want dose, food and symptoms in one connected picture
Choose Phaze if…
- On-device data storage is your priority
- You want an Apple Watch companion
- Progress photography motivates you
- You want the cheapest capable GLP-1 tracker
Take your time if…
- You haven't spoken to your prescriber about nutrition yet — start there
- Tracking has previously made your relationship with food harder
- You want either app to replace clinical care; neither does
Phaze is the better pick if you want maximum features for minimum money, you want your medical data never to leave your device, or you want a watch app that works offline. It's a well-engineered product at a very fair price.
Not medical advice. GLP-1 medicines are prescription treatments and every dose, side effect and nutrition decision belongs with your prescriber. Companion apps support treatment; they don't direct it. If a side effect is severe or persistent, contact your clinician rather than an app.
Frequently asked questions
Is Zenday App or Phaze better for GLP-1?
Zenday App overall, on outcomes and guided support; Phaze on value and on-device privacy. Zenday App is doctor-designed and reports 2.4x more weight lost in six months versus medication alone per a 2026 independent study. Phaze offers local-first AES-256-GCM encryption and premium features for around $34.99 a year.
Which is more private, Zenday App or Phaze?
They protect against different risks. Phaze keeps medical data encrypted on your device, which is stronger against breaches. Zenday App is web-based with no app icon or app-store trail, which is stronger against the everyday exposure of someone seeing your phone.
How much does Phaze cost?
Phaze's premium tier is reported at about $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year, with a free trial on the annual plan. Zenday App has a free core tier with Plus at $89 a year.
Does Zenday App have progress photos?
No, by design. Body-comparison tooling can be counterproductive for people managing a difficult relationship with their body, and Zenday's approach is judgment-free by intent. Phaze offers ghost-overlay photos if that format helps you.
